Install Kliq on Shopify: the two fields you need from OpenAI Ads Manager

Where to find your Pixel ID and Conversions API key in ads.openai.com, what happens when you save them, and how to confirm events are actually arriving before you turn on the product feed.

Setting up Kliq is two fields, not a theme edit. This walks through exactly what each step does, so you know what to check before moving on.

Before you start

You need a Shopify store and an OpenAI Ads Manager account (ads.openai.com) with an active pixel. If you haven’t created one yet, do that first — Kliq relays events through your own pixel and your own Conversions API key, never through an account Kliq controls.

Step 1: Get your Pixel ID and Conversions API key

In your OpenAI Ads Manager account, find your pixel’s ID and generate a Conversions API key. Keep both handy — you’ll paste them once and Kliq encrypts the key at rest.

Step 2: Paste them into Kliq’s Setup screen

Open Kliq from your Shopify admin and go to Setup. Paste the Pixel ID and Conversions API key, then save. Saving does one thing automatically: it creates the Web Pixel on your store through Shopify’s own API. There is no theme code to add and no section to drag into place — the Pixel card on the dashboard turns to “Active” as soon as this completes.

Step 3: Watch the first events arrive

Browse your own storefront — view a product, add it to a cart. Within about a minute, the dashboard’s health strip should show counts for page views and product views under the “browser” source. If nothing shows up after a few minutes, check that the Web Pixel shows as active in Setup before troubleshooting further.

Step 4: Send a test event

Setup has a “Send test event” button. It posts a test-flagged event using your own key; a successful response shows as accepted, and a failure shows OpenAI’s own response text so you know exactly what to fix — a bad key, an inactive pixel, or a malformed field.

Step 5: Confirm order events, not just browsing events

Place a real or test order (or wait for your first real one). Two things should happen: the browser pixel’s checkout-completed event, if the browser was still open and cooperative, and Shopify’s orders/create webhook, which fires regardless. Both carry the same event id for that order, so OpenAI counts it once. Either path alone is enough for the order to show up correctly — the app doesn’t require both.

Step 6: Turn on the product feed (every plan, including Free)

Once events are flowing, enabling the feed builds a Google-format file from your products and variants within about a minute, either served at a private URL you can download or delivered over SFTP to the location your Ads Manager shows. It rebuilds daily on its own, and again within 10 minutes of a product change. Tag a product kliq-exclude to leave it out of the feed entirely, or kliq-no-ads to keep it in the feed but marked not eligible for ads.

Step 7: Open the revenue report (Growth and Pro)

With events and orders flowing, Revenue shows attributed orders, revenue, average order value and top products for the last 7, 30 or 90 days, with a CSV export. Give it a day or two of real traffic before judging the matched percentage — a fresh install won’t have much history yet.

If something looks off

Setup keeps a rolling debug log of your most recent events with their delivery status, so you can see exactly which ones succeeded, which failed, and why — without needing to check your OpenAI account first.
