Any store that sells physical goods to consumers in the EU needs the harmonised notice since 27 September 2026. That date is when Directive (EU) 2024/825 made the notice mandatory, and the wording is fixed by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. This guide asks three questions — physical goods, EU consumers, producer guarantee longer than two years — and points to one of three outcomes: notice only, notice and GARAN label, or out of scope.
If you do not sell physical goods, or you do not sell to consumers in the EU, this guide puts your store out of scope. Those are the first two questions, and a no on either one ends the flow before the guarantee question is even asked. The out-of-scope card then shows the reason in one line. The notice is the harmonised text every covered store shows, while the GARAN label is a graphic you show per product. Both are fixed by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960: the notice comes from Annex I and the label from Annex II. The label is only in play when the producer gives a free commercial guarantee of durability longer than two years, so a store can need the notice without ever needing the label.
Your store must show the harmonised notice: since 27 September 2026 the notice is what a store selling physical goods to EU consumers is required to display. The law, in plain words
Directive (EU) 2024/825, with the templates fixed in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960. It applies to every trader selling goods to consumers in the EU, whatever platform they use.
Consumers must see the EU notice about the two-year legal guarantee before they buy. Online, that means on the product page or clearly on the way to checkout.
If the producer offers a free durability guarantee longer than two years, the harmonised GARAN label must sit next to the product image and show the duration.
'Eco-friendly', 'climate neutral' or 'green' without proof become an unfair commercial practice from the same date.
